Did you know that March 1st is Saint David’s Day, the patron saint of Wales? No? Neither did I. Well, until last weekend, when my partner (who just happens to be Welsh!) told me so. The Welsh are a fiercely patriotic nation, so regularly mark the occasion by wearing traditional Welsh costumes or symbols (think: daffodils, leeks, dragons). Schools often hold festivals called “Eisteddfodau” (don’t ask me how to pronounce that), where children sing songs, dance and celebrate their heritage.
